You wouldn\u2019t use it to describe a person; to do that, you would use <strong>benevolent<\/strong>!)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Slang is a common source of informal words, and \u201cgood\u201d is no different:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Cool <\/strong>is a classic, and refers to things that are stylish and fashionable, as well as expressing one\u2019s happiness with a situation, like so:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Friend 1: \u201cWe got invited to a party tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Friend 2: \u201cCool!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Awesome <\/strong>is an old word that means \u201cinspiring awe or wonder\u201d but these days is used to describe anything that is great.<\/li><li><strong>Sweet<\/strong> is another alternative for \u201ccool.\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Lit<\/strong> is more modern, and is used in a similar way to \u201ccool.\u201d If you\u2019re over 30, you probably shouldn\u2019t use this.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Formal words you can use in place of \u201cbad\u201d include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Terrible<\/strong>, <strong>Awful<\/strong>, or <strong>Horrible<\/strong> are multi-purpose words that express a thing, person, or situation\u2019s \u201cbadness.\u201d To increase the intensity, add \u201creally\u201d to the front of the word\u2014 don\u2019t add \u201cer\u201d or \u201cest\u201d to any of these.<\/li><li><strong>Substandard, Unacceptable, <\/strong>or<strong> Unsatisfactory<\/strong> are very formal words that you can use in professional situations when critiquing a situation or product.<\/li><li><strong>Abhorrent, Vile<\/strong> or <strong>Odious <\/strong>are used to describe things that make you disgusted or morally outraged.<\/li><li><strong>Evil<\/strong> or <strong>Despicable<\/strong> are used to describe people who are real-life villains with poor morals. Remember \u201cDespicable Me?\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Inept<\/strong> or <strong>Incompetent<\/strong> are words used to describe people that are really bad at their jobs. An official in charge of visas who is constantly losing people\u2019s passports is <strong>inept<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Informal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Gnarly <\/strong>is a slang word that you\u2019ll hear used to describe things that are ugly or unpleasant.<\/li><li><strong>Sucks<\/strong> is a very informal verb that is used to express displeasure, and is always used with words like \u201cthis,\u201d \u201cthat,\u201d or \u201cit.\u201d \u201cThat sucks\u201d is a common lament you\u2019ll hear from people of all ages. Since it\u2019s a verb, use the adverbs \u201creally\u201d or \u201ctotally\u201d to increase its intensity.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Word About Superlatives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t forget the rules for creating superlative adjectives! Adding \u201cer\u201d to most adjectives will increase their intensity, like in \u201cfast\u201d and \u201cfaster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If something is the \u201cmost fast\u201d, then you\u2019d add \u201cest\u201d to make it \u201cfastest\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, these rules don\u2019t work for good or bad.
